Purpose of the Role:
Ensure the safety and smooth running of your designated house |
Head of House is not a standalone role but rather an extra set of responsibilities given to individuals performing other roles at the summer centre (usually Activity Leaders), for which they will be remunerated with a supplement of £80 on top of their main salary amount.

Duties
- To ensure that on arrival the student’s documents and pocket money are recorded and collected for safe keeping.
- To ensure that the students are welcomed appropriately on arrival and inducted appropriately e.g. tour of the house and campus
- To ensure that group leaders are provided with the appropriate information on arrival e.g. door codes, meal times, key info sheets, etc.
- To be responsible for general welfare and supervision in conjunction with the relevant other members of staff e.g. Welfare Manager.
- To be available to discuss and resolve any group leader issues and make the management aware of these situations and solutions in a timely way.
- To ensure that the rooming plan is observed and that it is followed accurately.
- To ensure that the general standard of cleanliness and tidiness in house is high in conjunction with the site manager where necessary.
- To ensure that all staff are appropriately briefed for the tasks that they are required to carry out.
- To ensure that staff have a clear idea of their responsibilities e.g. ensuring that they all have a clear idea of their working week.
- To ensure that students are motivated to comply with the house rules via competitions including:
The tidiest room, Star of the week, Birthday parties, etc - To be the parent liaison point in the house and to work in conjunction with the Welfare Manager.
- To ensure that there is an appropriate system for storing valuables
- To ensure that the house rules are clearly displayed, understood and followed by staff and students
- To ensure that the House files are kept up to date
Weekly/Weekends
- To ensure that there are 2 pocket money sessions per week where students can access their money and that £30 of pocket money is kept as a deposit.
- To ensure that House Registers are kept, students make their own signs for the door of their rooms and that beds are accurately labelled to ensure a smooth change over process as bedding is changed as students leave and new students beds are made up in anticipation.
- To ensure that staff are appropriately briefed to able to ensure a positive first impression and that departing students are ready and able to enjoy their remaining time.
- To manage the collection of laundry in conjunction with the Site Manager
- To ensure that all laundry procedures are followed and laundry nets are labelled.
- To conduct regular fire drills and ensure all staff and students are aware of the procedures.
- To complete a house inspection on a weekly basis to ensure that any maintenance issues and damage reports are accurate and reported in a timely way to the Site Manager.
- Liaise frequently with site manager with regards to room changes etc
- To ensure that staff use of kitchens is in accordance with the house rules and that students are aware that this is a no go area.
- To ensure that effective communication channels are in places to that staff have enough information to be able to act independently when faced with minor issues. This can be done via house briefings and meetings, etc.
